Kodiak Defense kindly lent me these firearms for review. The plain jane “Classic” SKS-KD is the same thing as any other Russian SKS with a few key differences. The bolt has been modified and reblued. The magazine release has been modified to work with AK47 magazines. Really, the SKS-KD Classic rifle is a competitor to the SKS-D.The SKS, firing an intermediate size cartridge (7.62x39), was first produced in small quantities in 1944. These saw limited usage on the Byelorussian Front, where they received very positive reviews. Full production did not commence until 1949 at the Tula Arsenal. Like other posters have mentioned, the 7.62x39 will drop a coyote with no issues. I’m not sure how well the SKS is suited to coyote hunting though.
